"From an email Michael Mowery sent to Angie Drobnic Holan and Becky Bowers, both of Politifact:
Becky and Angie,
I just spoke with my national director and we're in good shape. She confirmed: first, we will not reprint or repost wholes or portions of Politifact's analyses; and second, we are interested in displaying the name of the article/official quote, the "truth-o-meter" rating and image, as well as the link to the original post on your website. This display will provide some information to our users while still encouraging them to follow the link to the original piece on Politifact's website.
To be clear, the Politifact widget itself would not meet our needs, but the amount of content and type of content displayed by the widget does.
Additionally, they included a link to the NYT Terms of Use page, which is the template for their new terms of use:
http://developer.nytimes.com/Api_terms_of_use
From Michael Mowery, 12/17/2013
“I just spoke with Angie Holan. I outlined our project and described an example for what we are envisioning regarding displaying Politifact's content.
She seems very interested in the project but hesitant to allow entire articles to be reprinted/reposted. She further noted that any sharing on such a scale would have to be approved by "higher ups". She suggested a version of content sharing where we display the first 200 words of the article with a link to the full article on their site, and mentioned that this may get approval more easily. She did agree to explore both options with the editors, but we should be prepared to move forward with less content than desired. “

Michael & Clinton,
Thanks for the note!
Here's where we are (Michael, I've gotten an update since I spoke with you last):
1. We're working now to publicly post a terms of use document on our site. Optimistically, this will happen within the week. No signatures are necessary; it'll lay the groundwork for any/all use of our API, by anyone. It'll be patterned on other similar terms, such as: http://developer.nytimes.com/Api_terms_of_use
2. If you don't see any red flags in the NYT document, we can move forward in parallel with a quick chat between Clinton and two IT folks on our end, Hugo Scavino and Dave Brown. They're simply looking for a sense of the kind of request volume Clinton anticipates. The terms of use will likely say you're not allowed to exceed a "reasonable" request volume. Chatting up front will help everyone understand what "reasonable" means, so you guys are able to provide a good user experience for your readers, and we don't end up with issues related to unanticipated volume. It'll also open the communication channels, so that if for any reason you do anticipate higher requests, you can let us know. The goal is for us to work together so everyone has a good experience.
I can set up a GoToMeeting call to connect the five of us: Michael, Clinton, Hugo, Dave and me.
Assuming that conversation goes smoothly, you're welcome to write code that makes use of our API in the way we've discussed, with the understanding that we plan to have terms of use in place before your launch.

Hi Clinton and Becky,
This email is to introduce the two of you so we can open the lines of communication as Politifact prepares to provide API permissions and Terms of Use.
Becky (I don't think I've mentioned this) we're only interested in active federal officials for this first attempt with factchecking data, so we won't even be taking or using everything.
Clinton, just so you're on the same page with the rest of us: Politifact has agreed to let us use the titles, truth-o-meter ratings, names of the officials, and links to the full articles in our display.
Thanks,
Michael
