Summary Writing - Bill Summary Sheet Terms

Bill Number

Bill Number's must contain a prefix and the number assigned to the legislation.

There must be a space between the prefix and the number, regardless of whether the legislature has a space between the two.

For Amendments, the prefix is always "Amdt" followed by the number assigned to the amendment (ex: Amdt 8). If the state does not assign a number to amendments, use the sponsors name followed by the "Amdt" prefix (ex: "Smith Amdt").

The best way to ensure to enter the correct prefix is to use the prefix drop down menu in the Admin. Please attend to prefixes carefully.
