Estimating Inventory Counts
The shipping boxes should indicate either total counts or the weight of its contents. This will vary depending on who we order from and how much we order. For instance, our current letterhead and envelopes in 2018 had the total counts printed on each shipping box (5000 letterheads/box & 2500 envelopes/box). However, the brochures only included the total weight of the container. For boxes with specific counts, simply estimate what percentage is left in the box for any boxes that are not completely full. This should give you a pretty good estimate. For those that simply list the weight in pounds, count how many pieces of that item is equal to a pound. For our 2018 brochures, about 63 individual brochures are equal to 1 lb. Each box indicates its weight at about 40 lbs/box. Again, these weights and counts may change so use your best judgment.
To estimate when the next order should be made, calculate how much has been used since the last order. Find an average for how much of each piece was used per month and use that number to calculate when you may run out. You should consider making the order before you are close to running out as Richard may want to create a new design.
NOTE: Date of next order amount is a recommendation based on previous order dates. Make sure to count how much of each item we actually have before letting Richard know we need more.
