Entering Votes - Finding Sponsors & Cosponsors

Minnesota

Example: SF 2083

From the bill documents page:

The sponsor will be listed in the bill documents page under the "Chief Author" headline, but the sponsors are presented in the bill history. However, because this legislature adds cosponsors throughout the legislative process, you will likely have to search the bill using a separate search on their website to obtain a complete list of cosponsors. If it is a House bill, you will have to search it using the Senate's webpage to see if the Senate has added any cosponsors. If it is a Senate bill, like this example, you will have to search it using the House's webpage to see if the House has added any cosponsors. Therefore, go back to the homepage of the legislature's website and follow these steps:
  1. Click the "House" tab:

  1. Click the "Bill Search and Status" tab:

  1. Under the "House of Representatives" headline and under the "Search by Bill Numbers." headline, type "HF 1054" in the search box and click on the "Go" button:

  1. Click the "Bill Status" link with the proper bill number:

  1. Locate the sponsor (chief author) and cosponsors in the bill history:

The sponsors and cosponsors are listed at the top of the bill history. The chief author's name is repeated in this list (blue arrow) and the rest are considered cosponsors (black arrows).

Therefore, the PVS website will have both sponsors and cosponsors listed for this state, if applicable. In this case, the sponsor is Rep. Clark and the Cosponsors are Rep. Hausman, Simon, Allen, and all other names listed.

NOTE: You may not be required to perform a separate search of the bill if there was not action in the opposing chamber. For example, if a Senate bill failed on Senate Passage there wouldn't be any House actions, thus a separate search would not be required.
