President and Vice President Schedules Guide
As the highest office and traditionally most viewed officials on our webpage, the Presidential schedule should be top priority, and updated three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
Collecting Presidential and Vice Presidential Statements:
- Open the President's page in Admin.
- Go to https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog.
- Open up the "Briefings and Statements" section
- Look through the recently posted items, keeping in mind that new items are not always put at the top of the list. As a cheat, look for key words that signal statements that should be collected (Remarks, Statement, Presidential Message, Letter etc.)
- Open new tabs for all items which have not been entered into Admin.
- Close all items in which the President does not speak. Close proclamations.
- Be sure to put anything from the Vice President in his admin profile rather than that of the president.
For Each Public Statement:
- Be careful with locations--many public statements do not explicitly include a location in the traditional format. It is common for the location to be Washington DC; the location sometimes references a very specific part of the White House (rose garden, South Lawn, etc.) these can all be entered as 'Washington, DC'
Collecting Presidential and Vice Presidential Tweets:
As a new source for statement collection, collecting tweets is a different process from regular collection. for more info, refer to Twitter specific collection wiki: http://wiki.votesmart.org/Twitter
- Open the President/Vice President official twitter account.
- Look through Twitter feed - Only collect tweets from the Pres./Vice Pres., do not collect retweets!
- Refer to twitter wiki for proper format (Title: 'Tweet - "quoted", Speechtext includes Twitter handle, Speechtype is 'Social Media', Location is always 'Unknown')
- Work way down Twitter feed until previous most-recently collected Tweet.
As always, be sure to update collection dates on the schedule!
