Priority Bills
Key Votes Department staff and interns reserve the opportunity to deem certain bills as "priority bills", meaning that they should receive special attention and be advanced through the process as quickly as possible while maintaining our typical levels of accuracy. Priority bills will take precedence over other bills with the goal of releasing the summary to the live website as soon as possible.
This is most likely to happen with state legislation that receives significant national attention. The handful of fetal heartbeat bills that have been passed over the last few years are a good example.
Discretion should be used when deeming bills priority, especially when there is other important legislation for the week. As of 2018, this designation is almost never used.
