Non-Harassment Policy

It is Project Vote Smart’s policy that all employees, interns, and volunteers have a right to work in an environment free of discrimination and harassment. The Project prohibits sexual, racial, and other harassment based on protected group status by its employees, interns, volunteers, visitors, or any other person associated with the organization. Harassment could include such incidents as unwelcome statements or actions based on sex, race, age, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual preference that are sufficiently severe or pervasive so as to unreasonably interfere with an individual’s work performance or create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Project Vote Smart prohibits harassment of its employees, interns, volunteers, and visitors in any form—by supervisors, co-workers, or suppliers.

Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other such verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that is sufficiently severe or pervasive so as to unreasonably interfere with an individual’s work performance or create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment.

Any person who has a complaint of prohibited harassment by anyone at Project Vote Smart is strongly urged to bring the problem to the attention of any member of the staff. The Project prohibits retaliation against any employee or intern for having raised such a complaint. Complaints will be investigated and handled as confidentially as possible. Appropriate corrective action, including discharge or other discipline, will be taken to remedy violations of this policy.
