Managing VoteEasy Interns
First Day
- To start, all interns must go through the Office tour, watch the Vote Smart video, fill out all "first day docs" for HR, and read relevant wiki pages under "All Staff and Interns"
- Present all interns with first day welcome letter (attached below)
- Have them read relevant PCT Department pages on the wiki
- Have them read through the VoteEasy wiki pages and look at VoteEasy online (if available)
- Welcome all interns to the PCT Department by explaining basic department functions and showing them PCT data on the live website
- Train them on the Vote Easy research process (see 'Vote Easy - Training Manual' attached below for detailed steps on how to train new interns)
- Show them examples of good and bad research
- Test spreadsheet: have them conduct initial research on a candidate with known positions. After a few hours, review their work and compare it to prior research on the candidate.
Flag any problems or missing evidence before interns begin initial research
First Week
After a week or so of research, meet with the interns to review any problems
- Review each VoteEasy question to ensure that they understand what we're looking for
- Discuss any problems they have with the research process
- Answer questions about common terms that may be used for determinations (incorporate Common Phrases list)
Throughout the internship
- Review interns' research as soon as possible (even without conducting an official check). Ideally, we will catch mistakes before they're repeated in future research
- Those interns performing well should be transferred to checks
