This is just a quick reference guide for getting wireless internet access at Project Vote Smart. Below you will find the Access Point information. Please remember that we do not give specific setup instructions due to the proprietary nature of wireless hardware manufacturers. The access point does not require a username and password, and does not have ANY encryption setup. Always remember to NEVER send personal information over this network or any network not setup with some sort of security/encryption.
Here is a basic Windows XP wireless setup. Please remember to disregard the actual network/access point names, passwords, passphrases, and security settings in the pictures. This guide is to help guideyou in connecting to the PVS's wireless network
1--When you turn your computer/laptop on, you might see a ballon popup from the taskbar like below.
{{image class="center" alt="Wifi Balloon" url="/images/wifi_bubble.png"}}
2-- Right-click on the Network Connection icon to which the balloon points. If the balloon disappears before you have a chance to click, move the cursor over the icon, using the cursor-tip to choose the wireless connection, rather than another network icon, say for an Ethernet connection, that may be on the Taskbar.

3-- Choose View Available Wireless Networks from the menu.
{{image class="center" alt="View Available Wireless Networks" url="/images/wifi_viewnetworks.png"}}
4-- You will see a list of all wireless networks in the upper portion of the window . Depending on if you are in the library or in the lodge, or around those facilities, you should see either of the choices below listed:
SSID: pvs_lodge
SSID: pvs_library
SSID: pvs_office
Click on one of the choices. The wireless connection does not have WEP encryption so you won't have to type in a network key/phrase/password. Remember that these are not actual screenshots, they are here to act as a guide. You should your choice on the list of available wireless networks.

5-- That is it! Now you should just have to open up a browser window...Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, or any other web browsing window. Your browser should be setup to automatically find internet settings.
***Please remember that we do not accept any loss of personal, financial, or important data due to the lack of security or encryption on our wireless network. It is your responsibility to protect your information and to not transmit sensitive information across this unsecured network. ***
