Speeches Intern Expectations
1. Check every entry for formatting for the first three weeks - thoroughness and accuracy.
2. Check every aspect of source websites that could contain public statements - thoroughness.
3. By the end of the third week very few formatting errors should be made - accuracy.
4. Be able to collect 80 statements in a day, on average.
5. It is expected there will be questions concerning the work - ask your supervisor.
These are your priorities - you will always have work to do:
1. The schedule currently assigned to you.
- Only work on one schedule at a time, if you have several assigned in the "upcoming" column, do the one at the top first, unless told otherwise by your supervisor.
- Open up the votesmart.org website. Go to the public statements section. In separate tabs and at random, open two dozen public statements. Check:
- titles (proper formatting, capitalization, and spacing)
- types (proper formatting)
- date (make sure it's not from the future)
- speech text (proper spacing, no ads, no page or time breaks, no "click here" text)
- shared with the correct officials
- If you find a statement you think will make for a good blog post, or is on a topic you know DevComm is writing a post for, email it to a Devcomm staff member.
