Entering Votes Addendum - Congressional Votes


The process for entering congressional votes has been streamlined thanks to some programing by our IT Department. Unlike votes in the state legislatures, we have the ability to import the votes from the websites of the Senate and the House Clerk. In addition, a link to the text of the legislation will be imported, as opposed to us uploading a bill text. To successfully import this information, special attention must be paid to the following:

The web importation features in admin certainly ameliorates the process of entering congressional votes, largely because less attention needs to be paid to checking votes. However, the votes must be checked at least once prior to going live. Problems with web importation will occur for a number of reasons, and when we encounter these problems, it must be addressed immediately. Generally, it's a problem with the web import ID. Furthermore, web importation might suggest that sponsors and cosponsors can be imported. In fact, we are required to input sponsors and cosponsors using the same process as state votes.
